What is Family Constellations?
Family Constellations allow us to break patterns of suffering so that we can live healthier, happier, and more fulfilled lives.
Bert Hellinger is the founder of this work. He studied and treated families for more than 50 years and he observed that many of us unconsciously “take on” destructive familial patterns of anxiety, depression, anger, guilt, aloneness, alcoholism and even illness as a way of “belonging” in our families. He witnessed how the bond of love can cause a child to sacrifice her own best interest in an attempt to ease the suffering of a parent or other family member.
Family Constellations is a way of discovering underlying family bonds and forces that have been carried unconsciously over several generations and, as a result, generations of suffering & unhappiness can be shifted
The Systemic Family Constellation approach views people as being embedded in, and influenced by larger systems, including but not limited to the family. An unconscious love and loyalty to our family system can cause us to unwittingly carry on the fate, secret agonies, and unresolved traumas of previous generations. These issues can remain energetically present and entangle us, our children, and our grandchildren, until the issue is cleared. This is at the root of many of our current, resistant-to-change issues and is the profound contribution of this

Family Constellations in Individual Sessions:
Viewing a person as part of a wider system – e.g. family of origin, the current family is one of the most powerful aspects of the Family Constellations approach. When I work with a client in a one-to-one consultation, I don’t leave my experience as a facilitator at the door. I can widen the lens with which I view the landscape of the client’s life and take into account the transgenerational effects of the events in client’s family history, therefore bringing more clarity and progress
When can a one-to-one consultation be helpful? One-to-one Family Constellations sessions are flexible to suit your needs. I would initially meet you for an assessment session. We can discuss how it can help and whether I am the right person for you to be working with. Some people prefer to come for one or two stand-alone sessions. Occasional sessions might also help during the course of longer-term therapy or counseling. It’s also possible to come every so often, when you get stuck or want some extra input into your process. You may prefer to come to one or two individual sessions before coming to a group, while other people come to a group and then follow up with some individual work. There are no set rules, only what you need at that moment.
When it comes to individual Family Constellation sessions, there is plenty of opportunity for creativity and experimentation. Different personalities feel more comfortable with some activities and senses than with others. The flexibility of a one-to-one session allows us to choose the approach that suits you best.
The process is similar to representatives in a group setting: they perceive sensations and feelings that bring meaning and clarity to the family dynamics and reveal entanglements. In a one-to-one session, placing the representative figures on the board or on the floor with the guidance of the facilitator helps us look at hidden dynamics, unpicking or relaxing the fixed stories that constrain the healing movements that open our hearts to a wider truth.
The Family Constellation session – whether individual or in a group – is often only the beginning of a journey toward a sense of release and peace
